Henry Stoltz was born 16 December 1841 at Stoltz Prairie, Wabash County, Illinois, the son of George Johann and Margaret (Hinkle) Stoltz. Henry probably attended Buzzard Roost rural school. He was a member of the Jordan Creek Lutheran Church, but later when the church was discontinued, he transferred his membership to the Nye Chapel United Brethren Church.
Henry Stoltz married Hester E. Deischer 17 August 1865 in Wabash County, Illinois. Hester Deischer was born 17 June 1841 in Wabash County, Illinois. Hester was always called 'Ester'. She was the daughter of William Deischer, born 25 December 1810 in Pennsylvania, and Sarah Deisher (note spelling), born in Pennsylvania. Sarah Deisher was the daughter of Peter Deisher and ‘_____’ Fegley of Pennsylvania. William and Sarah (Deisher) Deischer were married 1 May 1838 in Berks County, Pennsylvania. They lived south of Lancaster, Wabash County, Illinois. William was a farmer. He and Sarah had six children:
      (1) Amelia, born 1839 in Pennsylvania, (2) *Hester, (3) Mary, born 1844, (4) Daniel, born February 1845, (5) Sarah, born 20 April 1849, and (6) Almira, born 27 April 1857. Hester, as noted above, married Henry Stoltz. Her sister, Almira, married Henry's younger brother, John Hamilton Stoltz. See Number 64-10.
Sarah Deischer is buried at the Jordan Creek Lutheran Cemetery, southwest of Lancaster, Illinois. After Sarah's death, William married second Elizabeth Shearer, a widow. They divorced with no children. William married third Diana Penston Rose, a widow. They had no children. William Deischer died 17 November 1876; burial at Jordan Creek Lutheran Church.
William Deischer's father was Jacob Deischer, born 20 September 1764 in Pennsylvania, and his mother was Catharine Rothermel, born 20 May 1771. Jacob Deischer died 15 July 1823 and Catharine died 14 September 1823. Burial is in Berks County, Pennsylvania.
Five years after his marriage, Henry Stoltz purchased his first 40 acre tract of land from Zariah Walters in December 1870 for $600. This farm was located in the N.E. 1/4 of the S.W. 1/4 of Section 29, Township 1 North, Range 13 West of the 2nd Principal Meridian of Lick Prairie Precinct, Wabash County, Illinois. On 14 June 1876, Henry purchased an 80 acre tract of land from his father-in-law, William Deischer, for $1400. This farm was located in the W. 112 of the S.W. 1/4 of Section 29. In 1877 Henry Stoltz sold 40 acres of his land to Daniel Deisher. This was the first tract of land he had purchased in 1870 from Zariah Walters. On 31 December 1892, Henry purchased from his father's estate 40 acres for $500 described as follows: N.E. 1/4 of N.E. 1/4, Section 29. Henry lived and farmed in the Lick Prairie Precinct until 1891, then moved to a farm near Sand Barrens, a small settlement about two miles west of St. Francisville, Lawrence County, Illinois. That same year he sold to his son, William George Stoltz, 20 acres of his 80 acre farm in the S.W. 1/4 of Section 29, Lick Prairie Precinct, for $600. Henry and Ester lived on the farm near St. Francisville until 1912. They then moved into St. Francisville where they lived until their deaths.
