  • Notes
    • 6411. WILLIAM GEORGE STOLTZ
William George Stoltz was born 5 September 1867 in Lick Prairie Precinct, Wabash County, Illinois, was the son of Henry and Ester (Deischer) Stoltz. See Number 641. William Stoltz as a boy attended Stoltz School and perhaps Nye Chapel and the Christian Church at Lick Prairie, a couple miles from his home. William helped his father farm until his marriage.
William Stoltz married Nellie R. Williams 18 October 1891, Wabash County, Illinois. Nellie was the daughter of Arthur Williams and Esther E. Williams. They were first cousins. Nellie (Williams) Stoltz had an only sister, Mattie Williams, who married Charles 'Doc' Miller, a cousin to Amy Nelgin who married Henry Stoltz. See Branch II, Number 6252. Charles and Mattie Miller lived one-and-one-half miles west of Friendsville, Illinois, on a farm of 80 acres; 40 acres south of the road and 40 acres north of the road. On the Wabash County map this land is identified as being owned by Joseph Preston and Abner Litherland. Charles and Mattie Miller had no children.
William Stoltz was always called 'Bill'. The same year of his marriage he purchased 20 acres of land from his father and started farming for himself in the S.W. 1/4 of Section 29. Later he acquired the total 80 acre tract; the W. 1/2 of the S. W. 1/4 of Section 29. On the Wabash County map, 40 acres is shown under the name Zack Walters. Bill was a successful farmer and was well respected among friends and neighbors. William was a devoted Democrat, as were most of the Stoltzes at that time. Bill had a fine herd of milch cows and a registered bull. One day Bill was charged and gored by the bull. He called for help and his wife by some miracle managed to hold the bull at bay with a pitchfork and the help of the farm dog. The injuries Bill received were critical and caused his death within a few days.
William and Nellie Stoltz were members of the Christian Church of Lick Prairie. William died 3 April 1927 and Nellie died in 1950. Both are buried at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carmel, Wabash County, Illinois. William and Nellie Stoltz had two children both born on the farm home at Lick Prairie Precinct, Wabash County, Illinois.
